Franklin College

Principal & Chief Executive

SALARY: UP TO £105,000

PERMANENT, FULL-TIME, START EASTER 2018 - FULLY NEGOTIABLE

This is an incredible opportunity for an outstanding leader who would like to help create a partnership of national significance and to lead North Lincolnshire's most successful college. The successful candidate will bring a collegiate, engaging style of management and the drive to take the College through to 'Outstanding'. The role will suit an inspirational Deputy Principal or a Principal who is ready for a new challenge on the national stage.

Above all, we are looking for someone who is committed to the interests and future of our region's young people, and who can lead with a compelling vision.

ABOUT THE VACANCY

The vacancy has arisen with the forthcoming retirement of our current Principal, Trevor Wray. Trevor leaves a successful College with healthy student numbers (totalling over 2,000) and a pivotal role in the new Venn4 Partnership - a collaborative network and partnership of four Sixth Form Colleges in the North East Lincolnshire and Humberside area. This has national significance, and secures the independence of each of these Sixth Form Colleges (Franklin College, John Leggott College, Wilberforce College & Wyke College) to serve their local communities.

Trevor has overseen the development of the College into a campus with enviable facilities and a culture that allows our students to thrive and maximise their potential.

About Franklin College

Without incurring any borrowings, the College has carefully improved buildings and facilities, providing state-of-the-art enhancements to the student experience, a superb learning resource centre, an enclosed courtyard, and more..

What Others Say

Our OfSTED report is currently Grade 3 'RI', which was a disappointment, but we are making progress towards a speedy return to a 'Good'' inspection judgement. Our goal will then be to progress rapidly through to OfSTED 'Outstanding'.

We have prepared a comprehensive information pack which includes a letter from the Chair of Governors, a Job Description, a Person Specification, the Application Form, and other documents with the information you'll need.

"Teachers use their subject knowledge and realistic examples linked to subject areas to help to heighten students’ interest. For example in criminology, a discussion of justice and crime scenarios challenged students’ thinking about society and diversity. In history, students relate economic and social policies very well to different periods in British political history."

ABOUT THE COLLEGE

Our success and popularity are built upon our commitment to providing our students with the best possible learning environment, and the highest possible standards of support and guidance. Every year, about 90% of Franklin College students who apply for higher education gain a place at their first choice university. Our extensive links with local and national employers have resulted in students being very successful when looking for employment, higher and degree apprenticeships, and further training. The maturity, education and skills that our students acquire during their time at Franklin College gives them the edge to achieve a successful future.
At Franklin College we are proud of our students and their achievements (both academically and personally). We aim for a culture of respect and a mature, inclusive, and friendly environment. Our outstanding success has been recognised by OfSTED amongst others. Our vision is to build further on this success to ensure the best possible future for our current and future students.

The recent Area-Based Further Education Reviews have helped the Sixth Form Colleges in the Humber and North Lincolnshire region to develop a unique solution that preserves the independence of the Colleges but creates a partnership of equals, unique to the sector and of national significance. As well as leading Franklin College, our new Principal will help to lead the Venn4 Partnership alongside colleague Principals from the other three Sixth Form Colleges.

"Adult students benefit from stimulating teaching, with topics and discussion that challenge and develop their knowledge and understanding. They see the value of the learning for their personal and career development. Apprentices benefit from carefully planned learning programmes that enable the vast majority of the small number on programmes to make appropriate progress."

THE APPLICATION PROCESS

To apply, please complete the form in the pack and send it, with your letter of application, by e-mail to ASDTi (not the College) by 11pm, 2nd October 2017.

Interviews will be held towards the end of week commencing 9th October 2017

It is hoped that the successful candidate will take up the appointment in Easter 2018, however this is fully negotiable

"I've received loads of support at Franklin and gone from mediocre grades at GCSE to straight A's. It has a great working environment and good teachers."
